LOS OTROS/THE OTHERS

Striking movies Nicolekidmanalakinamannjamesbe

Director: Alejandro Amanábar
Writer: Alejandro Amanábar
Cast: Nicole Kidman, Fionnula Flanagan, Christopher Eccleston, Alakina Mann, James Bentley, Eric Sykes, Elaine Cassidy.

I have seen this movie lately and was really impressed Smile

The Others' is an old-time ghost story though it comes as a quiet surprise. It has no bombastic special effects, no convenient marketing gimmicks, and no the blood-and-guts tendencies of most modern horror films.
But I felt even more thrilled and scared while watching it!! Shocked lol!

The story takes place on England's Channel Islands, which were cut off during the German attacks in World War II. Kidman's chaste, nervous Grace lives in an old estate with her two children while her husband is off fighting in the war. The little ones -- headstrong Anne (Alakina Mann) and soft-hearted Nicholas (James Bentley) -- are hypersensitive to sunlight and could die if exposed to it. All of the house's doors must be locked and the windows covered with heavy curtains to keep the light out. This gloomy atmosphere does little to assuage Grace's fears that her husband has died, or comfort her when the servants run off one evening. Then a trio of replacements (led by a fine Irish actress named Fionnula Flanagan) arrive, promising to help the fragile family keep things together. Grace seems happy for the aid and allows them to move in after a few stern instructions. And that's when the spooky stuff starts -- noises in the attic... ghostly figures appearing after bedtime... the all-important curtains mysteriously pulled open...

Honestly, i read in reveiws that this movie resembles The Sixth Sence, but i, personally, find it original and fresh..the outcome was so unexpected...hope if you decide to watch it too it will not disappoint you as well Wink

Plot Summary:
After the accidental death of his twin sister, David Ash and his family move back to the United States. In 1928, David returns to England to teach at Cambridge. Besides teaching, David is an author who exposes false mediums and spiritualist. While he has never found a person who can communicate with the "dearly departed", his continues to accept challenges. He is invited to Edbrook Hall to calm the fears of the elderly nanny of the Mariell family. At Edbrook Hall, David meets beautiful Christina and her two brothers who live in the house with Nanny Tess. Nanny Tess is seeing things, and Ash's book debunking such phenomenon makes him a good choice to set her mind at ease and convince her she is just tired and stressed. But soon after arriving David too begins to doubt his senses, and watching the odd behavior of the three grown Mariell children doesn't make his task any easier. In fact, he begins to think Nanny Tess isn't really just tired and stressed out after all.

Review:
The story is very powerful and errie, with very nice dialogs that fills you with intrigue. not much use of special affects again, nor any blood-shed. Though it has its moments of chill! Slowly as the climax builds up, all the pieces fall into place then you can recall and understand why somebody was saying something that you felt was strange. But the effects of David's past might sometimes confuse you along with the detail at Edbrook Hall, but it reveals itself in the end and also takes you to the final part of the movie. Overall, the movie was really good and makes an impression. It is also quite different from the other movies of the same genre.

I was simply rolling on the floors while watching them --- never being concerned about what it is all about --- i was just enjoying the unparalleled comedy!
those who have seen it already --- i think allmost all -- tell what do u think!
and those who haven't seen -- really -- u ppl are missing something !
i haven't seen part 3! can anybody tell if it is commensurate to the sequel?

I think she is really beautiful as a bride. I am a typically girl, I have surfed at ebay for several times only watching bride dresses and dreaming which one I would take...

Well, which movies I generally love I love you...

I am crazy a cude bollywood stories. At the moment, I am watching Saathiya... I love movies as "Dil Se", Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and many others...

I love romantic movies and especially movies which take place in countries I love, as Italy, India, Iran (really interesting culture - but partly so sad movies Crying or Very sad). Well, I love movies from all over the world. I would be interested to watch some Arabic movies. I have just seen several and they were really interesting.

Ah, I love the old James Bond movies. After watching "You only live twice" (I hope this is the translated title), I dream about travelling in China.

I love movies about femaleness. So I really love the movie "The Geisha".

Finally, I am interested in old movies (from the 50ies, 60ies, 70ies - they are so cude - especially those love stories with music, the old clothes - wonderful Very Happy). And I am interested in good movies about interesting personalities, as peace fighters, articts (composers, writers)...

And I love funny stuff... Just sometimes, I enjoy watching children's soaps rabbit.

I watched a good movie and want to tell u about it. It's "The White Countess" a 2005 Merchant/Ivory film set in Shanghai in the 1930s.
Striking movies White1
Ralph Fiennes and Natasha Richardson star in this quietly passionate story about personal standards.
James Ivory directed the movie. Striking movies White2
The screenplay was written by the acclaimed novelist, Kazuo Ishiguro.
It was the last movie produced by Ismail Merchant (December 25, 1936 – May 25, 2005) an Indian-born film producer. Striking movies Ismail_Merchant

I love Merchant/Ivory movies, they made close to 40 films together. Their partnership has a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest partnership in independent cinema history. Their films won six Academy Awards.

In "The White Countess" it's Shanghai. 1936. Crossroads of the world and into this city of political intrigue comes Sofia, a Russian Countess who, with the remains of her family, has been left stateless by the Revolution. Forced by her reduced circumstances to support herself and her family as a bar-girl and taxi dancer, Sofia forms a relationship with Jackson, a blind former diplomat who opens an elegant bar; The White Countess. Their curious relationship matures but they are caught up in the fall of the city to the Japanese invaders.
