PostSubject: Golden Globe Awards   Sun Jan 11, 2009 6:47 pm

The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards is taking place today, January 11, 2009 at The Beverly Hilton with a live telecast.
The Globes are presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a group of about 90 reporters covering show business for overseas outlets.
Annual Golden Globes are the town's second-biggest movie celebration after the Academy Awards.

Nearly a year after his death, Heath Ledger might be honored as best supporting actor for his frenzied performance as the Joker in the Batman blockbuster "The Dark Knight."
Other acting nominees include Angelina Jolie for "Changeling" and romantic partner Brad Pitt for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"; "Titanic" co-stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet for their reunion film, "Revolutionary Road"; Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr. for "Tropic Thunder"; and Anne Hathaway for "Rachel Getting Married."
Winslet also has a nomination for "The Reader," while Meryl Streep is competing for two awards, dramatic actress with "Doubt" and musical or comedy actress with "Mamma Mia!"
"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "Doubt" and "Frost/Nixon" lead the field with five nominations each.
Last year's Globe show was scrapped after stars said they would stay away in honor of picket lines by the Writers Guild of America, which was engaged in a bitter strike against producers. In its place was a briskly paced news conference where winners were announced from a podium.

IS THE BEST MOVIE!!!
"Slumdog Millionaire" won best director for Danny Boyle, along with screenplay and musical score.
"Golden Globes, or the GGs as we very affectionately refer to them your mad, pulsating affection for our film is much appreciated. Really, deeply appreciated," Boyle said.
Also among its four nominations was the evening's top honor, best drama, the last award of the night.
"Slumdog Millionaire," an underdog story some awards watchers think could become an Oscar favorite, features a generally unknown cast in the story of an orphan boy in Mumbai who rises from terrible hardship to become a champ on India's version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," all the while trying to reunite with a lost love from his childhood.
"We really weren't expecting to be here in America at all at one time, so it's just amazing to be here," said Simon Beaufoy, whose winning script was adapted from Vikas Swarup's novel "Q & A."

Kate Winslet won 2 Golden Globes!!! queen

"I'm so sorry," Winslet said to her fellow nominees after winning best dramatic actress for the domestic drama "Revolutionary Road," her second prize of the night. "Is this really happening?"

Winslet earlier won supporting actress for the Holocaust-themed drama "The Reader," in which she plays a former Nazi concentration camp guard in a romantic fling with a teenager.

By now its common knowledge that Danny Boyle's internationally acclaimed film Slumdog Millionaire was the main attraction at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards, sweeping as many as 4 major awards. Among others, A.R. Rahman became the first ever Indian to win a Golden Globe award. The music maestro bagged the trophy for his catchy original score in the film. It was indeed heartening to see our very own Anil Kapoor along with A.R.Rahman seated among the Who's Who of Hollywood.

Apart from the duo, yet another Indian managed to make heads turn at the event. The man in question is none other than the Baadshah of Bollywood - Shah Rukh Khan. The actor, looking dapper in a black suit was present at the Gala event with wife Gauri Khan and good friend Karan Johar.

It was a proud moment for Indians world over when Shah Rukh walked on stage along with Freida Pinto to announce one of the nominees of Best Motion Picture (Drama) - Slumdog Millionaire. King Khan in his trademark charismatic style thanked Danny and his team for shooting the film in Mumbai. In fact, Danny Boyle and Dev Patel (who plays young Jamal Malik in the film) were all excited when King Khan walked on stage.
